The Stormholt method · Frame IV

Behaviours, not tools. The 9 Ways define how a team operates every day, and they separate teams that improve from teams that merely perform. The rule underneath all nine: be hard on the process, never on the people.

1. Go See

Decisions get made where the work happens, not where the slides are. Leaders visit the process regularly and watch a real item move end to end before forming an opinion.

2. Show Respect

Problems are raised without fear, and the person who raises one is thanked, publicly. Respect is the precondition for truth, and truth is the raw material of improvement.

3. Ask Why

Symptoms invite fixes; causes invite improvements. Asking why, several times, politely, is the cheapest diagnostic instrument ever invented.

4. Focus on Customer

Every process step either moves value toward the customer or it does not. The customer definition of value settles internal arguments faster than any org chart.

5. Pursue End-to-End Results

Local optimisation is how functions win while the company loses. Follow the work across the handoffs and measure the whole journey, not the departmental slice.

6. Make Performance Visible

One board, current reality, visible to everyone who works in the process. Hidden performance breeds politics; visible performance breeds questions, and questions breed improvement.

7. Coach for Improvement

Managers develop problem-solvers rather than solving problems by proxy. The question is not what should I do, but what have you seen and what would you try.

8. Drive Simple Solutions

The best countermeasure is the one the team can run without you. Complexity is a maintenance debt; simplicity is a gift to the next shift.

9. Continuously Improve

The standard is a floor, not a ceiling. Every improvement resets the baseline, and the team that improved yesterday expects to improve again.

Score your team

Rate your team on each way from 1 (ad hoc) to 5 (embedded), honestly. Pick the weakest one and define one concrete action to move it a single point in thirty days. Put it on the weekly cadence agenda, starting this week. The maturity assessment template is included in the CI Mastery Toolkit.
